March Shenanigans

Ahhh, March… The month of college basketball madness, the push for the NHL playoffs, St. Patrick’s Day, and daffodil sproutings. Being of Irish and Scottish descent, I love the month of March. We hear tales of leprechauns skirting around, making mischief where they may, and gossiping about their infamous pot of gold. So, in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, I thought it might be fun to focus this month’s Girl Talk on all things Irish.

Friends and family are valued deeply by the Irish over material things, as summarized in one popular quote, “May your right hand always be stretched out in friendship and not in want.”

Another quote states, “A best friend is like a four-leaf clover: hard to find and lucky to have.”

I read a quote with a bit of Irish humor that is my favorite. “There are good ships, and there are wood ships, ships that sail the sea. But the best ships are friendships, may they always be.”

We’ve all searched the ground coverings as children searching for a four-leaf clover. Hoping to find that one-in-a-million good luck charm clumped in a patch of green “pretenders.” What would happen if we were the one four-leaf clover to the people we meet? What if we vowed never to hide in a patch of “pretenders” because the world is full of people who need friends?

How can we encourage our friends today, old and new? If we mold our friendships in the likeness of the quotes above, our lives can only become richer. So, let’s enrich our friends’ lives and maybe pull a little prank or two.

After all, it is the month of leprechaun shenanigans.

Finally, I wanted to pass along a couple of recipes for Irish friendship bread. Thank you, FriendshipBreadKitchen.com and allreceipes.com. Gather your girlfriends, make some mischief, and enjoy a bite or two of this tasty bread.
